founder and ceo

My name is Harriet Houston. In 2019 as Covid was taking a hold of the world and education was moving to an online landscape, I moved to the country to live on my now husband's property near Inverell, NSW. This move, along with the uncertain circumstances of a global pandemic motivated me to set up my own online tutoring business to help as many students as I could to stay on track and to feel engaged and motivated in their studies. 

Education

  • 8 years teaching full time in NSW private schools (since 2016) and 5 years online tutoring (2019)

  • 2021-22 HSC Marker for Latin Continuers

  • 2016-18 Masters of Teaching (Secondary) University of New England, NSW, specialising in Languages (French and Spanish) and HSIE curriculum areas, completed online whilst working full time as a teacher under conditional provision

  • 2012-16 Bachelor of Arts Languages (Honours in French Studies), University of Sydney, NSW 

  • 2014 French Studies Exchange to L’Université Sciences Po, Paris, France

  • 2013 Spanish Studies Exchange to Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico

  • 2007-10 Frensham All Girls Boarding School, Mittagong, NSW, ATAR 99.3. I completed HSC French and French Extension in Year 11 (receiving marks in band 6 and E4). I was awarded the dux of the school and an ATAR of 99.3.

  • I started my journey learning languages from age 3 attending the French Australian pre-school and then the Lycée Franco-Australien Telopea for primary school in Canberra, ACT.

Qualifications

  • Proficient Teacher Accreditation with NESA  

  • 4 years full time year 7- 12 extension Latin and French teacher; stage 6 tutor, Year 8 Rugby manager at the Scots College in Sydney. In 2016, in my first year of teaching, I rewrote and created all resources for the Latin programme from years 7-12 Extension at Scots College. 

  • 4 years full time year 7- 12 extension Latin and French teacher; stage 4 tutor and Equestrian coordinator at Frensham, Mittagong, NSW.  More recently, I have rewritten and created resources for a new Latin programme at Frensham in the junior years using newly created resources in a bid to adapt Latin to the modern age and 21st century student. 

  • HSC marker for Latin 2021 and 2022. 

  •  Casual teacher of Latin at the NSW School of Languages (all online education) 2023

  • Member of the Classical Latin Teachers Association NSW 

  • Member of the Linda Montross New Educator's Latin scholarship international committee Member of the Australia Tutoring Association

Meet the Team

Our specialised team of tutors have been hand selected to ensure the highest quality of education is received by our clients. All tutors are trained by HH Enterprises founder Harriet and follow a curriculum also designed and tested by Harriet, this allows a proven product to be provided and moulded to each students requirements. All tutors have studied their perspective fields through senior school and have have and/or are studying at a tertiary level. 

  • Sarah completed her HSC at Frensham in 2020 receiving top bands in Latin, Latin Extension and English Advanced. She was taught Latin by Harriet via Zoom and recently they have reconnected. Sarah has been working part time as a Latin tutor at HH Enterprises since 2023. She is currently studying Latin as a major as part of her double Arts/Law degree at Australian National University (ANU) . Sarah is extremely diligent, attentive and knowledgeable with an approachable and friendly demeanour. She provides detailed and comprehensive notes after each session. She has availability most afternoons this term.
